Abstract
Introduction: In recent years, the city of Tabriz has faced numerous challenges in areas such as traffic management, high energy consumption, water shortages, and a reduction in green spaces. These issues have contributed to increased environmental pollution and a decline in the quality of life for its citizens. Among the proposed solutions to these urban problems is the application of artificial intelligence (AI) to address urban issues. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of AI on urban sustainability and examine how smart technologies can enhance urban infrastructure.
Method: The research method is descriptive-analytical and survey-based. The data collection tool was a questionnaire using a 5-point Likert scale, which was distributed among urban managers, experts, and specialist professors in Tabriz. Using Cochran's formula with an unlimited population, the sample size was determined to be 384, and purposeful sampling was employed. For data analysis, structural equation modeling (SEM) was used, utilizing SmartPLS and SPSS software.
Findings: The results show that AI has a significant impact on traffic management (β = 0.62), energy consumption optimization (β = 0.58), water resource management (β = 0.53), and green space design (β = 0.67). These findings indicate the high potential of AI in improving urban infrastructure performance and reducing negative environmental impacts.
Conclusion: The results of this research suggest that the use of AI can play a key role in enhancing the sustainability of Tabriz city. By reducing resource consumption and improving the quality of urban services, AI can contribute to the creation of smarter, more sustainable cities.
