Guidelines for Using Artificial Intelligence
Generative AI can be used as an auxiliary tool to accelerate research processes. However, the ultimate responsibility for the scientific accuracy, originality and content of the work lies entirely with the author(s), and the AI is not recognized as an “author” or “researcher”.
Key principles
- Full transparency: Any use of AI tools must be accurately disclosed in the article.
- Maintaining scientific ethics: The use of these tools should not lead to plagiarism, the production of fabricated data or references to untrue sources.
- Security and privacy: Avoid uploading sensitive, confidential data or the full text of manuscripts to public and online AI tools.
Allowed and prohibited items
Allowed: Linguistic editing, sentence structure improvement, initial ideation and auxiliary coding (subject to final review and approval by the researcher).
Prohibited: Production of research data, findings, discussion and conclusions; Generating fake sources and citations; and entrusting the statistical analysis or judgment process to artificial intelligence without sufficient human supervision and knowledge.
How to declare and cite in the article
Authors are required to state the details of the use in the “Methodology” or “Ethical Considerations” section of the article.
- Citation pattern in the text: “This section was produced using the tool [tool name] version [version number] on [date of use] and then reviewed and finalized by the researcher”.
- For images/graphs: In the figure caption, state: “This image was produced using the tool [tool name]”.
- In the reference list: If necessary, include the tool used with the name, version, and link.
Reviewers’ duties
- Reviewers must check whether or not a “clear declaration of the use of artificial intelligence” is present in the manuscript.
- Reviewers are not allowed to upload the full text of the article to AI tools and systems.
- If there is suspicion of artificial content or data being generated by artificial intelligence, the referee can request a review, provide raw data, or provide additional explanations from the author.
