Abstract
The aim of this study was to present a competency model for sports elites as hosts in national media. The research employed a qualitative approach with thematic analysis. The statistical population included sports management professors, media experts, national media managers, current and former hosts of national broadcasting, and current and former sports hosts, selected through purposive sampling (17 participants). The research tool consisted of exploratory (semi-structured) interviews. The validity of the tool was assessed and confirmed based on sample reliability, expert opinions, and inter-rater agreement. The thematic analysis method proposed by Attride-Stirling (2001) and MaxQDA Pro software were used to analyze the findings. The comprehensive thematic analysis and the creation of a thematic network, utilizing expert opinions and theoretical foundations, revealed that individual factors, sports branding, and specialized knowledge are key components of the competency model for sports elites as hosts in national media. Given the significant role of sports elites as hosts in national media, the findings of this research can aid in the development of their competencies, enhance the quality of sports programs, and increase audience satisfaction. These efforts will not only benefit sports elites but also elevate the overall standard of sports media and bolster public trust in these media outlets.
