Abstract

Science popularization (SP) is a concept that considers inadequate understanding of science and lack of scientific knowledge among the general population. There are many procedures and approaches such as scientific literacy, public understanding of science, and public cooperation in science that are proposed and tested in SP. In this study, through documentation, SP is presented as a means for increasing public understanding of science. Studies offer the reasons that public magazines could succeed in SP and increase understanding of populations. Also, in order to investigate and identify the role and position of the public magazines in the SP, the magazine of Etelaat-e-Elmi was analysed during 2006 until 2011. This magazine has been published for 25 years, but it is no longer published. This monthly magazine has been considered in terms of qualities and advantages of general magazines reported in the literature. The results show that regular publication, availability of electronic format, variety of subject fields covered, etc. are affecting factors in desirable distribution of this magazine
