Abstract
A lab-on-a-chip (LOC) is a device which can integrate and perform one or more analytical procedures on a chip with a size of few square millimeters to centimeters. Such laboratory processes are mainly executed in a silicon chip. After a short review of the history of LOC, this article describes how it is constructed, what are its progressive and various applications and the advantages and disadvantages of this technology. At the end, recent advances and new horizons of LOC are discussed
