Abstract

Corrosion is the destruction of a structure or facility, by chemical reaction with its environment. This phenomenon is emphasized as an effective factor in the design, construction, production and operation of a structure or facility. The structure or facility performance and lifetime are drastically affected by corrosion. The cost of corrosion consists of both direct and indirect costs. The total annual estimated direct and indirect costs of corrosion are approximately 2-6 percent of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of each country. In this paper, corrosion is introduced and ways of dealing with this phenomenon will be discussed. Also the cost of this phenomenon in various industries has been studied.
