Abstract

Background: Early identification and planning for children with disabilities can affect their comprehensive development. However, it is very difficult to recognize many disabilities, especially mild disabilities, in the early years of childhood. The aim of this study was to determine the importance of early identification, diagnosis of the child's disability for proper placement, and early intervention with emphasis on its application in Iran.
Conclusion: The research method was descriptive and reviewed. Accordingly, by reviewing the theoretical and research background on the early identification, definition, importance and necessity, stages, resources, benefits, challenges and barriers of early identification in Iran are presented.
The results have shown that early identification value is crucial for children with disabilities, and if general knowledge about early identification develops, it can be beneficial for the child, the family of at risk children, the government and the community; Because it firstly prevents the development of a child's disability; secondly, it reduces the cost of exhausting care and support for the family and society; and third, the institutions providing community support services for people with disabilities offer more time and money for prevention services And their services focus on early identification and prevention of disabilities.
