The purpose of the study is to identify the appropriate research method(s) for interdisciplinary sciences, including knowledge and information science. In this regard, this is an analytical review article concerning some important philosophical schools related to research methods in which the characteristics of each philosophical school is mentioned and discussed. The findings show the positivist, pragmatist, realistic and Parmenides philosophical schools may be regarded as reductionist approaches which tend to discover the laws of nature; the existentialist and Heraclitus philosophical schools are holistic which tend to consider the change of entities. Since, it is the nature of the problem and the subject of the research that determine the appropriate research method and philosophy; Hence, for interdisciplinary sciences that often have complex, multi-faceted problems, the use of dual philosophical schools such as Plato’s philosophy (the composite approach) is more appropriate. It seems awareness of the fact that every research follows a series of philosophical assumptions has implications on how problems in the knowledge and information science should be studied.

Searching for, gathering and organizing information and research resourceson one hand and citing the sources, which are used on the other, havealways been one of the most important and urgent issues for researchers.Along with the growth and development of information and communicationtechnologies, libraries, universities, information centers, science centers andresearch centers have been equipped with convenient and useful data storageand retrieval tools. Also, the creation and development of the World WideWeb and Internet, resulted in the access of researchers to numerousinformation resources. Meanwhile, storing and acquisition of metadatainformation in a digital library using digital tools, makes it easier. Citing andreferring to the resources of information used in standard ways is anotheradvantage that users need. In addition, the digital environment requires anappropriate tool that supports data formats and standards supporting webpages. This article, with a general review, introduces the citationmanagement software, its features and then its limitations to producePajoohyar software, as the first Persian citation and reference managementsoftware. It aims at examining its features and capabilities in acquisition, organizing, and citation, and with an overviewing approach, it introduces itspossibilities that have empirically been implemented in the field of citationmanagement.

The Van earthquake epicenter was closedto an active tectonic intersection zone in NW Iran, eastern Turkey and SWCaucasus, and the earthquake fault with a compressional mechanism withalmost east-west direction, created a surface rupture with a 10km length inthe north of Van, between the coast line of Van and Ercek lakes. This articlerepresents the seismological aspects of the Van earthquake based on a 5 -day visit by the reconnaissance team of IIEES started on the 26th day afterthe mainshock

INTRODUCTION: Considering the importance and increasing rate ofsocial networks utilization amongst scientific societies, the present studywas conducted to analyze the profile picture of faculty members ofinformation sciences in academic social networks, and analyze theirprobabilistic patterns for the picture selection.METHODOLOGY: It was a descriptive and survey type study and aresearcher-made questionnaire was used to collect data from 45 facultymembers in governmental universities of the country. Analyzing data wasmade with SPSS and Chi-square test.FINDINGS: It showed that 51.1% of the faculties used the same pictures forvarious scientific social networks. 64.4 %, occasionally replaced theirpictures; 24.4 % of them noted that providing a new image of themselveswas the main reason to make changes on their profile pictures. The mostcommonly used image template was the official photo and the mostimportant reason for the current image was the attraction of a picture.Examining the research hypotheses, it was found that there is a significantrelationship between their profile image profile, gender, age and academicrank. The relationship between changing the picture and the gender washigh; while, it was moderate compared to the scientific level and ageamongst faculties. Moreover, most of the faculty members despite theirgender, age, and academic rank, used official pictures; however the rate ofusing officialprofile pictures was higher among men, those with professorlevel rank and those in 36 to 40 age range. These findings were similar tothe results of demographic and profile characteristics of faculty members. Conclusion: In academic social networks, interactions and communicationsare official and users are supposed to share their scientific output and experiences, so they have to present their official aspect of themselves insuch an environment. It seems that profile pictures in these networks areimportant to researchers in attracting scholars, colleagues and expanding thescholarly network, so they try to identify and accept those with the sameattitudes and manners.
